Badgers men’s hockey: Mark Osiecki to coach Team USA in World Juniors

Mark Oisecki, whose roots run deep in the University of Wisconsin men’s hockey program, was named Wednesday to coach Team USA in the 2015 World Junior Championships.

Osiecki was a standout defenseman for the Badgers when they won the NCAA title in 1990. He was an assistant under Mike Eaves when UW won the national championship in 2006 and advanced to the national title game in 2010.

Osiecki, currently an AHL assistant coach with Rockford who lives in Verona, has been a part of the last three American staffs to produce WJC medals. Team USA won gold in 2010 and ’13 and a bronze in 2011.

The World Juniors will take place Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 in Montreal and Toronto.
